We’re talking about Instagram: the photo and video-sharing social networking service owned by Facebook.
With over 700 million users and 15 million businesses having Instagram profiles, this is the hot social media platform for any business.
It’s where people discover new products and services. With 75% of Instagrammers taking action after being inspired by a post they have seen.
However, before you start creating your Instagram profile, take a social media minute and consider is your brand / product / service even right for Instagram? ✋
Instagram accounts need to be beautiful (e.g. product/location/food) or funny and content is still king on this platform, so have you got bucket loads of assets you can use?
So what makes a good Instagram post?
Here are 10 quick basics to consider:
- Stop their scroll: Create one focal point per image
- Device: Remember your creating for mobile so think scale. Dimensions are 1080px by 1080px.
- Branding: Subtle but present so when your content is seen & shared, your business is easily attributed & recognisable.
- Copy: Simple and clean text. Especially if you may put some money behind the post to boost it.
- Use all of the 30 hashtag allowance: # is Instagram’s SEO and is how your post is discoverable.
- Less than 200k: Look for hashtags that are less than 200k so you stand out, you won’t if the hashtag has millions using it.
- Call-to-action: Include a relevant and simple call to action.
- 80/20: Make 80% of your content useful.
- Be active: Post 3-5 times a week.
- Be engaging: Don’t neglect the community you are building, comment, like & share.
